Types of Network Topology in Computer Networks

Sharing is caring!

So we are going to discuss Different Types of Network Topology.First we discuss what is network topology.

What is Network Topology?

“Network Topology describe the structure or layout in which computers or others devices connected with one another.”

When we create our LAN (local area network) or WAN(Wide area Network). We always follow some structure to connect all the computers or devices. This structure depend on our requirements from the network. It depend on what we want to get from the network. There are many types of network topology which are used over the network.

Types of Network Topology:

Different types of network topology are as follows:

1)Bus Topology

2)Ring Topology

3)Star Topology

4)Mesh Topology

5)Hybrid Topology

6)Tree Topology

Bus Topology

In Bus Topology we use single cable to connect multiple computers. All the Computers are arranged in a sequence.

We can represent the bus topology in graphical method as follows.

bus topology

we can see that all the computers connected with the single wire.

Advantages of Bus Topology:

  1. It is less expensive
  2. Second it is very easy to learn or understand
  3. Third it is easy to configure.

Disadvantages of Bus Topology:

  1. If the cable damage somehow it disable or destroy the whole system.
  2. If one system or device failed it effect the whole system.
  3. It is very poor approach for the larger area.

Ring Topology

In Ring topology all the computers are connected with the same wire as in bus topology. But the last computer is connected with the first computer. In this way they make a shape of ring. So that is why it is called ring topology.

Graphical Representation of Ring Topology

Advantages of Ring Topology:

1) It is easy to learn and understand ring topology.

2)It is less expensive.

Disadvantages if Ring Topology:

1)If one computer damage it effects the whole system.

2)If the wire damage it destroy all the system.{:}{:es}So we are going to discuss Different Types of Network Topology.First we discuss what is network topology.
