Alleged Nokia 9 rear camera setup

After a previous image claimed to show off the rear panel of HMD Global’s upcoming Nokia 9 flagship, today a newly-leaked photo of what is allegedly the device’s display assembly has now revealed the smartphone’s front design.

It’s fair to say that 2018 has been the year of the notch – the controversial feature is included on Apple’s new iPhone XS and XS Max, Huawei’s P20 series, and even some of HMD Global’s own devices, among others – but it seems as though the flagship Nokia 9 will not follow this trend. Instead, the smartphone will make use of a more traditional 18:9 display of unknown dimensions complete with rounded corners and relatively average top and bottom bezels. Speaking of which, while the bottom bezel doesn’t appear to be home to any kind of sensors or branding, the top one is. Specifically, this includes the in-ear speaker towards the middle, the front-facing camera and Nokia branding on the right, and the LED notification light and proximity sensor in the left corner.

Elsewhere on the smartphone, previous leaks have revealed that a total of five rear cameras will be included. While the exact function of each sensor is still unconfirmed, one main camera will reportedly be coupled with a secondary RGB offering. Then, these will be combined with a third monochrome sensor to improve the overall detail. Additionally, it’s claimed that the two remaining cameras will boast telephoto and super wide-angle lenses respectively.

Aside from the flagship Nokia 9, the front panel of the upcoming Nokia X7 was also spotted. Unlike the Nokia X5 and X6 that have preceded it, though, there was no sign of a notch. Thus, confirming that it will resemble the premium Nokia 9 from the front.
Currently, there is no information regarding when the Nokia 9 or Nokia X7 will make their official appearances. However, considering the Nokia 9 is set to be powered by the Snapdragon 845, an announcement should take place sometime in October or early November at the latest. After all, Qualcomm is set to announce the newer Snapdragon 855 in December.
